What’s in your Toolbox? (Probably not waterjets or CNC machinery)

In the 90’s, comedian Tim Allen starred in a TV sitcom “Home Improvement” where his character, Tim “The Tool Man”  was obsessed with his power tools. I laugh every time I think about how he was never satisfied with his standard power tools. He had an unending quest for “more power” that was always followed up by his famous “Grunt“. (see video below)

So, where am I going with this story? In Tim’s case, he usually caused more problems than what he solved and not having the proper tools in your toolbox can be a problem at times. Can you relate?

The Best Way to Expand your Toolbox

With the correct tools in hand, some amazing things can be fabricated in a short amount of time. And if you don’t have the correct tools? Well, let’s just say the frustration level will rise, shortcuts will be taken, lead time will be missed and the quality of the final project will be less than awe-inspiring, especially to your customer. If you are serious about your work, you probably have some expensive tools in your toolbox to get the job done and this investment doesn’t come cheap; especially when you only need to use it once in a great while. Let’s face it, sometimes the ROI (return on investment) just isn’t there for some expensive tools, so what do you do? Well, you can do what my friend does. Borrow things and never bring them back or returns it broken. You could go rent something which usually never works properly when you use it because everyone prior to you has abused it to death. And of course, another option (although not a very good one) would be to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on specialty equipment such as waterjets, CNC machinery, or a variety of other metal and glass working equipment…Ok, forget this option, besides your wife is going to ask where all the money went at some point.

Outsourcing Waterjet, CNC, Metal & Glass WorkToolbox - Waterjet, CNC, Metal & Glass Work

Right now your best option is to find someone that has the cool tools you need to help complete your job in the shortest amount of time with the least amount of money and this means outsourcing. With the right “Project Partner” you will be able to become your own “Superman” dodging the many bullets that can sometimes stop a project dead in its tracks. These partners have already made the investments in waterjets, CNC machinery, or other metal and glass working equipment to get the job done right. They know the equipment inside and out and they can anticipate problems before they become problems. You couldn’t ask for a better “Wingman” than that.
